THE NAKED COWGIRL OF NEW YORK!

The Times Square in New York is one of the busiest spots in the United States...... the WALL  street, where economies are determined, is also a stone throw!

There, at the tip of the heavy traffic around the 45th street, tourists find pleasure in poking their eyes on the half-nakedness of Louisa Holmlund, an average adult from Portland, Oregon!

Long before the global economic meltdown, Louisa has demonstrated her gut as a “NAKED COWGIRL” at the same spot since 2005!

For about six hours or so, she will stand in the Times Square wearing only pasties with red, white and blue stars, a micro-mini skirt resembling U.S flag,a pair of white boot, a cowboy hat and inviting smile! She slings a guitar strapped around her freckled shoulders and perches herself at the middle of the many colourful but sometimes confusing adverts at the Times Square!

Occasionally, she sings the country music of Dallas. At random, she strums the chords on her guitar with the bold inscription “Naked Cowgirl”. Her voice is barely audible against the blast of horns of the yellow taxis! No one cares about what she sings but cared much more about her nakedness in the middle of all madness of that world!

From country side to the city sky scrappers, her motive is to earn a living out of relative abnormality……..passing tourists can’t resist taking picture with the cowgirl! Customers come in droves though few passersby are offended. Those that are carried away drop ‘TIPS’ through the appropriate signpost of the white boots! She makes approximately 300 dollars a night on the average.

She has had doses of the hazards of her trade! She was once arrested for indecent body exposure in Nashville and at many times at the Times Square. But she will not succumb! As it gets colder, she only plays shorter slings. She spends her vacation in Spain between January and February each year but in March more dollars flow into her boots!

It is one of the stories of the New Yorkers that I witnessed!
